Sammy was the first dog we owned. We adopted her from the shelter. She was a yellow lab. She spent a year with us and realized she was not a good fit for our active home. I wrote about her in a previous slice. A teacher friend adopted her from us.
The summer of 2008, my sister told me about a friend of hers who was trying to find a home for Labradoodle puppies. She told me they were hypoallergenic, non-shedding and a family dog. I had to go see them. Well, I fell in love with one of them. I immediately called my husband and told him I was bringing home a puppy. He told me no way. I told him all the reasons why I should get a Labradoodle that my sister had told me. My mother- in -law got on the phone and told me if I brought the dog home then she was going to move back to her own house. None of their comments mattered! I brought the puppy home anyways. The puppy was 3 months old and we named him Cole. He has had a few surgeries that has totalled over $10, 000. I tried surgery on one knee through the local vet but it did not work. I had to take him to an orthopedic vet! He has two metal knees now because he had torn both acls when he was younger. My husband calls him the million dollar dog! He is now ten years old and a very important part of my life. He is NOT non-shedding and all hypoallergenic! I had to go through five years of allergy shots just so that I could breathe around him. He now sleeps right next to me in my bed even though my allergist recommended he sleep outside the bedroom. When Cole was about 6 months old, one of my daughter’s friends asked me to dog sit for her six month old Schnauzer puppy. Her father had told her she needed to find a new home for that puppy and she was having trouble finding someone to take her. We had no luck finding a new owner for her. I decided she was going to stay with us. I now owned two puppies. We changed her name from Princess to Izzy!
It is kinda crazy for someone who is allergic to animals! I can’t imagine my house without a few dogs around! My niece lived with us for a year and a half along with her 2 cats and her Weimaraner (Camden). My youngest son lives with us and owns two dogs, 2 cats and a bunny. At one time, my middle son still lived with us and he had dog too! It is kinda crazy for someone who is allergic to animals! I would not want it any other way!!
